This full-bodied Brazilian coffee is sourced from the Mogiana region of Brazil, even the name of which is embedded in the history of Brazillian Coffee:
A Brief History Lesson
Ever since coffee blossomed São Paulo in the late 18th century, the town of Campinas was at the heart of coffee production in Brazil. But being land-locked, getting the coffee to the coast or other cities for export, as well as importing immigrant labour after the abolishment of slavery, was rapidly becoming expensive. And so, a group of farming families grouped together to create the Mogiana Railroad Company, at a time when the coffee industry was fueling railroad expansion across the country.
While the railroads were initially intended purely for agricultural use, some became much more, and in this particular region, so important was the railroad to the area that the region took on the name of the Mogiana railroad!
And so, the name of the Mogiana region harks back to coffee expansion in the heart of what is now the biggest producing country in the world!
